Tarpon Arts Curator and resident sponge buff, Dr. Tina Bucavalas, will deliver a fascinating talk on everything you’ve ever wanted to know about the sponge. For 30 years, the sponge industry was the largest industry in Florida, larger than citrus and even tourism and Tarpon Springs was known as the “Sponge Capital of the World.” The sponge still plays an extremely important role in Tarpon Springs’ local economy and the creature – it’s an animal, not a plant, you know – has a fascinating history. Come enjoy a light catered meal and devour knowledge on your lunch break!
**Limited to 40 guests.
All Tarpon Arts Members in the audience will get a FREE book, “Spiro the Sponge” with ticket purchase!
