LITTLE MONSTER TALES by Fantasy Theatre Factory Tuesday, October 19, 2010 Delightfully squeamish stories about monsters, children, and other squiggly creatures. Fantasy Theatre performers use simple props, narration, and music to weave their tales of suspense. Shiver hilariously with a comic version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Shake with The Monster and the Tailor by Paul Galdone. Scream with laughter as Ghostwriter decides to help a young student with a homework assignment. Cringe with delight over Scary Poems for Rotten Kids by Sean O'Huigin. These spine-tingling stories are sure to send children running to the library for more books by the same authors.
THE HUNDRED DRESSES by Eckerd Theater Company Friday, November 19, 2010 Wanda Petronski, the new girl in room 13, wears the same faded blue dress to school every day, but insists that she has a hundred bright, shiny new ones at home. As Wanda’s story unfolds, her classmates learn the secret of the hundred dresses and with it, a lesson in tolerance, in taking responsibility and in living with the consequences of our actions. An endearing tale, based on the Newbery Honor Book by Eleanor Estes, The Hundred Dresses, focuses on the difficult issue of bullying and how mistreating someone because he or she is different from oneself brings as much harm to the bully as to the victim.
I NEVER SAW ANOTHER BUTTERFLY by Eckerd Theater Company Friday, February 25, 2011
A triumph of the human spirit, I Never Saw Another Butterfly shares the hopes, the fears and the beauty of the children of Terezin. More than 15,000 children passed through Terezin Concentration Camp during World War II; fewer than 100 survived. Their true story, told through the artwork and poetry they left behind, creates a compelling picture of defiance and of vibrant life!
Cultural Treasures Education Program Sharing the History of Tarpon Springs Make history come alive for your students... The City of Tarpon Springs presents a new education program for fourth grade students and teachers. History posters and “traveling trunks” bring the rich cultural heritage of Tarpon Springs right into your classroom. The history poster is available to teachers at Traveling trunks, which can be borrowed by teachers for display and discussion in the classroom, contain historical items that illustrate life in past centuries, and reproductions of vintage photographs that document the community’s heritage.
