Journey Stories: A Smithsonian Exhibition
April 11-July 6

Public reception: Thursday, April 11, 6-7:30pm

Public programs (7:30-9pm) include:
• April 11, - Community Voices: How We Came Here and What We Brought. Community members will explain why their families came here and what they brought with them to reflect their homelands and journeys.
• April 18, - Scholars and Stories: Gary Mormino/Ybor City, Ray Arsenault /African Americans in Pinellas Co., Jose Fernandez/Cubans, Jeff Klinkenberg/northern migration to Florida, Tina Bucuvalas/Greeks in Tarpon Springs. Respected Florida scholars provide broad perspectives on local and regional immigration—and also tell their own journey stories.
• Friday, May 31, - Journey Songs: Songs about immigration, its difficulties, and the havoc it creates in the lives of those who leave and those left behind, are a staple in the repertoire of many groups. Award winning musicians will present songs about immigration.
• Saturday, June 22 – Journey Films: Many documentary and fictional films have examined the immigrant journey. We will show films that deal with locally significant immigrant groups, preceded by interpretive introductions.
