Tarpon Talks – Florida Architecture: Past to Present (Session one)

(Session one of two – the second session will be on Tuesday, February 4)

From Pre-Columbian burial mounds built by Indigenous people to the Castillo de San Marco constructed in St. Augustine by the Spanish, Man left an early mark on the landscape of Florida.  Five flags have flown over Florida and statehood came in 1845.  Eventually the territorial forts and Seminole chickee huts gave way in the late 19th century to the progress of railroads and resort hotels built on both coasts.  The 20th century saw changes not imaginable through booms and busts.  Post-World War II prosperity and everything from air conditioning to the space age to the impact of Disney on tourism will have an effect on Florida.
